by Marguerite GÉRARD (Grasse 1761 - Paris 1837) “Dors mon Enfant” Original etching in aquatint by Henri Gérard from a subject of his sister Marguerite printed and published in Paris by the editor Basan in the 1890s. Beautiful copy in coeval edition on laid paper bearing a literal watermark of the Papeterie d'Auvergne dated 1788, typical of French paper production of that period, trimmed just to the imprint of the plate, with small peelings visible in transparency and minimal defects at the edges such as folds and traces of moisture, some residual traces of old gluing on the reverse but overall in good general condition. Bibliography: Benezit "Dictionnaire des Peintres ..." Paris 1976, vol.4 p. 679 and 680. Portalis - Beraldi "Les Graveurs du XVIII siecle" Paris 1881 volume 2 p. 293. Measurements in mm: 610ca x 480ca (the sheet)
